Has anyone here heard of the overcrowding Cichlid technique?

when I first started getting into fish I knew I had to have a cichlid tank. In my opinion they are some of the most stunning freshwater fish but I was taught by breeders and fish pro's that when stocking you either want very few in a tank so that each has its own territory or you want to overcrowd them so that there is too much commotion and fights are interrupted by other fish passing by. The breeders I know all use overcrowding and I have used it also with great results but it seems anytime I even mention it on here I get thumbs downed or personally called out by other contributors. If something works and not just for me, why do I get shunned for mentioning anything about it? has no one ever heard of this fish keeping technique?
