I told a guy that i like him i got mixed signals what now?

i told my friend that i liked him .it was at the beach. he sat with me the whole day, just standing behind me like protecting me. at the end of the day i said something weird. and the next day he just ignored me i dont understand what to do. is it what i said or does he just not like me.
